Position Summary

Stride’s Director of Data Science and Advanced Analytics will work independently and in conjunction with the Chief Operating Officer to lead Stride’s pricing and underwriting analytics function. Specifically, your work will be essential to Stride’s core mission of improving educational access to high-quality higher and alternative education programs for students of all backgrounds.

The Director will help Stride to build this function from the ground up, identifying areas of need, tool and data requirements, and organizational structure and capabilities. This senior leader will be responsible for developing a long-term strategy and roadmap for Stride’s outcomes-based pricing and underwriting models and associated infrastructure. Specifically, you will be responsible for defining and developing the processes and tools to support data sourcing and ingestions, analytics and modeling, testing, reporting, and data visualization. Your work will revolutionize Stride’s origination attribution efforts, enhance our pricing and underwriting models, and grow our Data Science team. 

In this role you will have substantial exposure to company executives, who will seek your input on major company initiatives. Success in this role will require close partnership with the CEO, COO, CRO, Director of Finance and others across the organization to proactively identify analytical needs, validate hypotheses, and collaborate to turn analysis into action.



  • Manage Stride’s data science and analytics functions covering applicant-level origination attribution and optimization, forecasting, data visualization, and reporting

  • Lead overall strategy and implementation of the pricing and underwriting analytics stack to increase accuracy, velocity, and actionability of all performance measurement efforts

  • Test, implement, and deploy new ML methodologies to drive deeper insights across alternative data sets to improve pricing and income prediction

  • Identify new data sources to enhance accuracy of our various pricing and underwriting models Partner with the engineering team to define ingestion, data warehousing, and structuring needs

  • Manage A/B testing metrics and interpretations to ensure compliance with laws

  • Build the internal Stride analytical capability, bringing on additional solutions to fill gaps as needed, enhancing automation, creating necessary models, fostering data and analytical fluency throughout the organization, and developing a team over time

  • Help Stride to build a comprehensive view of the business to become even more data-led in its marketing, pricing, underwriting and investor reporting approach

  • Bring creative analytical techniques that Stride can use to get to the next order of insight about its guests and the market

  • Craft compelling executive-level narratives with surprising insights to be shared with executives, the board, and investors

  • Stay abreast of new developments, methods, and technologies in analytics to expand Stride’s repository of effective solutions

  • Inspire innovation by uncovering new problems and opportunities


  • 5+ years of experience in data science, analytics, reporting, and/or strategy

  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree or PhD preferred, in field requiring extensive quantitative and/or technical rigor

  • Demonstrated ability to dig into findings to a detailed level, translate trends and opportunities into actionable strategies, and tie analytical results to tactical recommendations

  • Deep foundation across computer science theory fundamentals e.g. data structures, algorithms, databases, and software design principles

  • Knowledge of ML approaches and algorithms, along with common implementations and packages to support rapid iteration and insight evaluation

  • High standards for code quality, ability and interest in learning new tech

  • Familiar with data warehousing / data lake best practices and industry standards

  • Superior analytical and data analysis skills, with background in statistical research and analysis methods

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including comfort presenting to executives

  • Courage to stand up for own perspective, even when it may not be the most common opinion

  • Entrepreneurial and proactive approach and comfort with associated ambiguity, with established ability to influence decision makers

  • History of strong interpersonal skills and being a team player who quickly builds trust and credibility through relationships

  • Previous experience leading teams and developing analytical talent within an organization

  • Deep experience with Tableau or Power BI and strong SQL skills

  • Experience with CDPs and tag management including implementation and management, to unify data to create/support targeted and personalized marketing campaigns

  • Experience with Azure

  • Knowledge of Statistical Software, R and SAS a plus

  • Excellent data visualization skills, with demonstrated ability to illuminate insights based on designs
